McKenna turns 5
Last year, since we just moved to TX, we didn't have any friends to have a birthday party for McKenna so instead we had a "special day." This year she has made some friends and had the opportunity to have a party. We gave her the option of a party or "special day" and she chose the "special day." We asked her what she wanted to do and she chose going to the American Girl store to pick out a doll. So with MUCH reluctance we woke up Friday morning and took off.
We started our day out with donuts (requested from McKenna) then picked Grammy up and headed to the store to pick out her doll. On the way she kept asking us, where the store was, how long until we were there, why does it take so long to get there, etc. We told her the store was in Dallas and it was going to take us a little bit to get there but when we got there it would be well worth her wait. Well we pulled into the parking lot and her little face lit up! She was so excited when she saw the outside of the store and the dolls that they had displayed through the windows. When she walked in, it was probably the best part of my day. Her little face just lit up with joy and a huge smile was planted on her face and never left. She walked around looking at every doll, all the accessories that came with and everything in between at the store. She finally decided on the doll of the year, "McKenna." She has not stopped playing with her and even strapped her into her car seat (so she wouldn't get hurt trying to get off the seat while we were gone) when we went to church this morning! She sleeps with her, watches tv with her, plays games with her, etc.
After the store she wanted to eat lunch at Whataburger (her favorite place EVER). When then spent a couple hours back at Grammy and Papa's house where Aunt Marikate gave her a Cinderella music box. Cinderella is her favorite princess and is even going to dress up as her for Halloween. She played and played for the couple hours we were there at the house before we left for dinner. We ate dinner at a seafood restaurant the Grammy got to pick since they were sharing their "day-o-fun". Oh did I forget to mention since Grammy's birthday fell 5 days before McKenna's we were celebrating the 2 birthday's together. Doesn't going to the American Girl store sound like something every grandmother wants to do for her "special day!"
She had a wonderful day and Aaron and I could not ask for a better way to spend the day with our big 5 year old.
Just before walking into the store
McKenna HAD to take a picture with McKenna!
Leaving with her new doll, McKenna
